On Day 29 we were up at 8:00 AM and it was 65 degrees. We planned to go down the Cassiar Highway
south out of Watson Lake. This highway
was completed in 1972 and is a narrow two lane with no shoulders. Because it is a relatively new road it does
not have as many commercial businesses, but it one of the most beautiful
highways in British Columbia.
The first stretch of highway out of Watson Lake area was all
burnt timber. There was a large fire in
2010 that burned over 30,000 hectares (74,133 acres). The good part is over the past several years
there has been a large crop of mushrooms to be found, picked and sold.
There were a lot of great mountain views and streams and
rivers. The road went uphill, and
downhill and around a lot of corners. We
found a nice campground called Shadow Mountain RV and called it a night.
